Beaches

Besides being the youngest, Tivat is also the sunniest city of Boka. If we add to that the clear sea that stays warm for a long time in this part of the bay, we have a perfect holiday…

The city beach is concrete and sandy and stretches along the promenade, and in Kalimanj you will find Belane beach, made of pebbles and sea grass. You will also be delighted by the small beach on Veriga – the cape where the Bay of Kotor is narrowest, and if you are coming with children, take them to Kalardovo. The most beautiful beach in Tivat, and beyond, is called Blue Horizons, and when you are already on the Luštica peninsula, you must also see Velja Spila, a beach that has won sympathy on social networks.

Tivat is full of hidden and somewhat forgotten coves, such as those along the Island of Flowers, but we won’t tell you everything. Excursions

Season your enjoyment of the sun and salt water with an adventure through untouched nature and authentic settlements, such as Gornja Lastva

This divine village of Boka Kotorska hides a real treasure of cultural wealth. A walk through the colorful gardens will take you to the church of St. Mary, which has guarded the village for 600 years, and there is also an old olive mill that is still working. Time seems to have stopped here, and it is similar in the small, romantic town of Bjelila, which is located on the coast. The typical fishing village has always been loved by painters, dreamers and artists, and you will be delighted by the multitude of fresh water sources that make the sea so clean.

Tivat has an indented coast and three islands – Sveti Marko, Ostrvo Cvijeća and Gospa od Milosti, so don’t miss a boat ride to one of them. For nature lovers, we recommend a visit to the sweet-salty oasis of peace, Tivat’s Solili, a locality that this year received an award in the “Nature and ecotourism” category for an example of good practice within the Green Destinations Story Award 2021. With the chirping of birds and the smell of salt, a walk in this the unique nature reserve will recharge your batteries for returning to everyday duties.

Food

Food gives a special spice to Tivat. Here, it smells of the sea and medicinal plants from the surrounding mountains, and sensitive senses will also recognize the subtle taste of distant lands. But let’s go in order.

The fish is prepared as simply as possible, although you expected some magical recipe. This is because the people of the coast “do not philosophize” much about fish, it is grilled, roasted on griddles and cooked in a fragrant broth made of brodet. In addition to Bokeš brodet, try the clams that are farmed along the bay. If you are not a fan of fish, try pashticada or pork fillet with egg yolk in batter. You will find this plant in many dishes from Tivat, numerous books have been written about its healing properties, and there is even an event dedicated to it. For dessert, try carob treats or the famous Tivat krempita.

Cultural Heritage

Most people think that Tivat covered itself with a cloak of glamor when it became the center of luxury nautical tourism, with the construction of the magnificent Porto Montenegro resort. However, it is not so…

However, it is not so. Tivat has long been a target of the rich – even in the Middle Ages, noble families found their peace here, whose summer houses still adorn the coast. Buća Palace is one of them – its sheds hide interesting stories that bear witness to history and you can visit it because it has been converted into a Gallery.

When you want to cool off, there is the City Park full of exotic plants that sailors brought from various parts of the world. Did you know that this park is also the largest botanical garden in the southern Adriatic? On the city promenade – the Pine waterfront, the ship that everyone turns to, the Jadran, is anchored. The proud sailing ship of the Royal Navy of Yugoslavia still captivates with its appearance after 87 years. The rich history is also evidenced by the sacral heritage as an invaluable asset of the city. Many people do not know that in Tivat the most churches are dedicated to the Virgin – as many as 11, and that one of them is the oldest church in this region, built by the Greeks in the 7th century.

Attractions

The people of Tivat breathe their soul into everything, and so it is with attractive marinas where the most beautiful yachts in the world are anchored…

This fashionable place will disarm you with its charm and loveliness, and a walk through its well-kept streets will become an unavoidable ritual during your stay in Tivat. A little further from the city, on the Luštica peninsula, a new luxury settlement, Luštica bay, is tucked away. It was declared the best development project in Europe, and recently Lonely Planet included it in the top 6 dream destinations. We won’t tell you everything, but be sure to visit the unusual lighthouse with a lookout point and a restaurant.

When you want pure nature, the paths of Vrmac will take you to some of the most beautiful viewpoints in Boka.
